# Manage locales using the app

Before a content author can localize a content item, an *Administrator* must define the necessary [locales](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/developers/content-hub-one/settings/supported-locales.md "Supported locales"). A locale is a culture code that consists of a two-letter language code and a two-letter region code, for example, the locale for American English is `en-US` and for British English is `en-GB`. You can manage locales using the Content Hub ONE app if you have the necessary permissions, or you can use the [API.](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/developers/content-hub-one/settings/locales.md "Locales")

Locales are managed from the **Locales** page, which is accessible by clicking **Settings** on the menu bar.

> [!note]
> The **Settings** menu is only visible if you have an *Admin* role.
