# Edit content

As a content author, you can make changes to content regardless of whether it has been published. This can be changes to the text itself or changes to the records or media associated with the content. If the content is not already published, you can publish it.

> [!note]
> Content items that reference or use the item are shown in the **Used by** section of the details pane. Click a content item in this section to open its details page.

> [!note]
> Required fields are indicated by asterisks. Fields might have help text to provide guidance. For fields that have a restriction on the number of characters, a character counter is displayed above the field.

> [!tip]
> To make it easier to find content, you can use the [Search box and filter list](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/content-authoring/manage-content/find-content.html "Find content"). You can also reorder content by clicking the **Name**, **Updated on**, or **Status** heading.

To edit content:

1. On the **Content** page, do one of the following:
    - Click the content item name.
    - Next to the content you want to edit, click **More actions** ![More actions icon](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/images/more-actions-chone.png) > **Edit**.
2. On the content item details page, modify or delete the contents of any fields you want to change.
3. Where applicable, [format the text](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/content-authoring/manage-content/edit-content/format-rich-text-fields.html "Format rich text fields") using the buttons on the toolbar.
4. To change referenced content, do any of the following:
    - To add another record, click **Add another record** and select **Search for record**. In the **Choose content** dialog, click the records you want to add and then click **Add Selection**. Each record represents a single reusable content item.
    - To create a record, click **Add another record**, select **Create new record**, and then choose the content type.

    - To reposition records, click the ![drag icon](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/images/drag-chone.png) icon and drag it to a new position.

    > [!important]
    > If another user applies changes to a content item while you are editing it, you cannot save your own changes without modifying the newer version instead. If you are notified that a newer version exists when trying to save changes, access that version in a new browser tab, confirm your intended changes are still relevant, and then apply them to the newer version as required.

8. Optionally, to [publish your changes for delivery](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/content-authoring/manage-content/publish-content-or-media.md "Publish content or media"), click **Publish**. This sets the [status](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch-one/en/users/content-hub-one/content-authoring/manage-content/content-delivery.md "Content delivery") to **PUBLISHED**.
