Create a taxonomy This functionality requires elevated permissions

Version: 4.1

A taxonomy is used to classify data. It is useful when you are organizing assets for use with filters or you need to add security. For example, you can use taxonomies to organize assets by brand name so that when users search for an asset, they can filter the search by brand name.

Taxonomies can have many hierarchical values represented as a tree structure.

Tip

For best practices on taxonomies, see Taxonomy versus option list and Option list to taxonomy migration.

To create a taxonomy:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage .

  2. On the Manage page, click Taxonomy.

  3. On the Taxonomy page, click New taxonomy.

  4. In the New taxonomy dialog box, fill out the following fields:

    FieldDescriptionMandatory
    NameName of the taxonomyYes
Allow manual sortingEnables manual sorting of the taxonomy items. No
LabelUI label of the taxonomy. Select the language in the drop-down list and then enter the label.Yes
  5. Click Create.

You can now add items to the taxonomy.

Warning

Master is a reserved internal label. Do not use it as the taxonomy identifier. For example, using Creation.Master or CMP.Creation.Master results in an error. You can, however, use it in combinations such as DMCreation.TypeMaster or CMP.MasterCreation.
