# Add a state flow transition

> [!note]
> To configure Content Hub, you must either be a superuser or have the necessary permissions granted to you through [user group policies](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/user-group-policies.html "User group policies").

A *transition* represents the passage from one state to another. The source of the transition is the state where the transition begins and the destination is the state where the transition ends.

You can enable [parallel and sequential approvals](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/parallel-and-sequential-approvals.html "Parallel and sequential approvals") on a transition by turning the **Conditional transition** toggle.

You can include a custom confirmation message for when a content item transitions to another state. When you do so, users must confirm the transition to apply it. For example, you can add a confirmation message for the transition from *Working on it* to *Under review*. When a user submits a content item for approval, this confirmation message acts as a checkpoint for the user to either proceed with the transition or cancel it.

> [!note]
> Confirmation messages apply only to individual transitions. The **Ask for confirmation** property is ignored when transitioning multiple entities using a **Selection** component.

To add a state flow transition:

4. On the state flow details page, next the state you want to modify, click **Edit transitions**.
