Create a taxonomy This functionality requires elevated permissions

A taxonomy is used to classify data. It is useful when you are organizing assets for use with filters or you need to add security. For example, you can use taxonomies to organize assets by brand name so that when users search for an asset, they can filter the search by brand name. Taxonomies can have many hierarchical values represented as a tree structure.

Tip

If you are unsure whether to use a taxonomy or an option list, see our Taxonomies and option lists best practices.

To create a taxonomy:

  1. On the menu bar, click Manage .

  2. On the Manage page, click Taxonomy.

  3. On the Taxonomy page, click New taxonomy.

  4. In the New taxonomy dialog box, fill out the following fields:

    FieldDescription
    NameThe name of the taxonomy.
Allow manual sortingLets you manually sort taxonomy items.
LabelThe UI label for the taxonomy. From the list, select a language and then enter the label.
  5. Click Create.

You can now add items to the taxonomy.

Warning

Master is a reserved internal label. Do not use it as the taxonomy identifier. For example, using Creation.Master or CMP.Creation.Master results in an error. You can, however, use it in combinations such as DMCreation.TypeMaster or CMP.MasterCreation.
