# Create a project from a template

You can create a [basic](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/basic-projects.html "Basic projects") or [multi-stage project](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/multi-stage-projects.html "Multi-stage projects") based on an [existing template](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/set-a-project-as-a-template.html "Set a project as a template"), inheriting all the characteristics of that template, including duration.

> Project assets and content are not copied to the new project.

To create a project from a template:

1. On the menu bar, click **Project** > **Projects**.
2. On the **Projects** page, click **New project**.
3. In the **New project** dialog, select **From template**, and fill out the following fields:

    | Field | Description | Mandatory |
    | --- | --- | --- |
    | **Template** | The required template. Enter a valid template name or click **Add** :mdiPlus: to search for it. | Yes |
    | **Name** | The name of the new project. | Yes |
    | **Start date** | The date when the project starts. Click the [date picker](https://mss-p-003-delivery.stylelabs.cloud/api/public/content/13b1b9529744437badc047705d0b7d67?v=28ada6ce) or enter a date. | No |

4. Click **Create**.
