# Create on-the-fly taxonomy items

The following example describes how to create an item for the *Type* taxonomy, on-the-fly, from the asset details page.

To create on-the-fly taxonomy items:

1. On the menu bar, click **Assets**.
2. Click the asset you want.
3. In the **Overview** section of the asset details page, click **Edit** :mdiPencilOutline:.
4. Next to the **Type** field, click **Add** :mdiPlus:.
5. In the **Type** dialog, click **Create new**.
6. In the **Asset type** dialog, fill out the available fields. The **Label** is mandatory but the other fields vary with the definition of the member.
7. Click **Save**.
8. Click **OK**.
9. In the **Overview** section, click **Save**.
