# Create public links

Sitecore Content Hub lets you create [public links](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/public-links.html "Public links") for assets that you can share externally. You can create a public link for a single asset from its details page or links for multiple assets at the same time, using a bulk operation.

If you try to create public links for an asset that has no renditions, Content Hub generates these links for anticipated renditions and leaves them in a *Pending* state until renditions become available. For example, if you configure public links for image assets that have no renditions, Content Hub will generate a link for the preview rendition, but not for an MP4 rendition.

> [!note]
> Content Hub supports JPEG, PNG, and WEBP images with a size of 50 MB or smaller, and videos with a maximum file size of 5 GB.

After you've created public links, you can use them to [layer images](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/create-layered-images.html "Create layered images") and perform [image transformations](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/apply-transformations.html "Apply transformations").

> [!important]
> We do not recommend you use public links for video hosting or traffic management. For this, it is best to integrate with a video hosting solution.

## Create a public link for a single asset

To create a public link for a single asset:

1. On the menu bar, click **Assets**.
2. On the **Assets** page, find the asset you want and click it.
3. On the asset details page, click **More actions** :mdiDotsHorizontal: > **:mdiShareOutline: Public links**.
4. In the **Public links** dialog, click :mdiPlus: **Public link**.
5. In the **New public link** dialog, enter the following information, and then click **Save**:

    | Field | Description |
    | --- | --- |
    | **Rendition** | [Rendition](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/default-renditions.html) of the asset for which you want to create a public link. |
    | **Crop** | *Don't crop*, *Crop to center*, *Crop to a custom focal point*, *Smart crop*, or *Manual crop*. Selecting *Crop to a custom focal point* displays an **Edit focal point** button letting you set up a [focal point](urn:resource:component:1348792) that is initially centered.<br><br>The default quality used for public links with cropping applied is 100 percent. To change the default value, open a service request at [support.sitecore.com](http://support.sitecore.com). |
    | **Dimensions** | Choose the size of the image for this link:<br><br><ul><li>*Don’t resize* - uses the image’s original dimensions.</li><li>*Custom width and height* - adds **Width** and **Height** fields to the dialog, letting you specify a custom width and height.</li><li>[Preset dimensions](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/custom-download-parameters.html).</li></ul><br><br>The image aspect ratio is locked, so changing one of these values will automatically change the other. |
    | **URL path** | Automatically generated URL path setting for a public link. Clicking **Refresh** :mdiRefresh: generates a new URL path setting that you can edit manually. You can use the auto-generated path setting or enter one of your own (for example, *Figure1-cropped*). |
    | **Link expiration** | Expiration date for the link. Selecting no value means the public link never expires. |

    > [!note]
    > The fields available depend on the asset type. You cannot crop or set a custom width and height for video assets.
