# Dynamic assignees

In the context of state flows, *dynamic assignees* are users who are automatically assigned a role when they create or modify an entity or relation that is linked to a state flow. A *dynamic assignee group* is a group of users who are automatically assigned a task when an entity transitions through a state flow.

Standard dynamic assignee roles are *Creator* (a person who creates entities in a state flow), or *Modifier* (a person who modifies entities in a state flow).

You can also create new roles for dynamic assignee users and user groups. To do this, you must [create a member group](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/create-a-member-group.html "Create a member group") and give it a relevant name. [Add a new member](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/create-a-member.html "Create a member") to this member group, and ensure that the following values are used:

| Field name | Recommended value |
| --- | --- |
| **Cardinality** | Many-to-many |
| **Allow navigation** | True |

When this relation has been created, you can set up a [dynamic assignment of user groups](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/add-a-state.html "Add a state").

## Email notifications

[Email notifications](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/configure-email-notification-settings.html "Configure email notification settings") for *Work Assigned to Me* are sent when assigned users change between states, such as when users are added, removed, or reordered.

If you select **Overwrite**, a new email notification is only sent if the dynamic assignee changes across state transitions. Notifications are not sent to users who were assigned in the previous state.

> [!note]
> Because reordering dynamic assignees is considered a change, maintaining the same order across state transitions helps avoid unnecessary notifications.
