# Manage user groups in Content Hub

Members of a user group are granted permissions and privileges according to the [user group policies](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/user-group-policies.html "User group policies") assigned to that group. By managing permissions and privileges using groups, you can streamline how they are assigned. This means that when you add new members to a group, they are automatically assigned the same access rights as every other member of the group. A user can be a member of multiple groups.

Sitecore Content Hub includes various [standard user groups](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/standard-user-groups.html "Standard user groups") to help you get started but you can create, edit, or delete user groups from the **Manage** page as required if you have the necessary permissions. Some of these user groups (such as *Creators*, *Approvers*, *Editors*, *Readers*, and *Guests*) are intended to provide you with an example of how you might apply permissions and privileges and are used for demo purposes. Additional information is available in the [Undestanding user access and permissions](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/user-access-and-permissions.html)

> [!important]
> We strongly recommend you create new user groups specific to your project and requirements. Pre-calculated permissions in Content Hub are evaluated each time an entity is created or updated. The number of user groups, and the number of policies they contain, has an impact on performance; for this reason, we recommend you have no more than 100 user groups, each containing fewer than 100 policies.

> Also refer to the [security best practices](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/security.html "Security") for managing user groups.

> Information architects and technical users can find more detailed guidance about using public links in the [Accelerate Cookbook for Content Hub](https://developers.sitecore.com/learn/accelerate/content-hub/implementation/functional-security/user-groups-setup), a collection of recipes that provides information to help you successfully set up, configure, and implement Content Hub.

## Create a user group

The users you add to a user group have access to the modules you specify and the [homepage](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/set-up-a-custom-homepage.html "Set up a custom homepage") you select for the group.

To create a user group:

1. On the menu bar, click **Manage** :mdiCogOutline:.

4. In the **Usergroup properties** section, in the **Name** field, enter a name for the user group.
5. Next to **Users**, click :mdiPlus: **Add**.
6. In the **Users** dialog, next to each user you want to add to the group, select the check box and, when you are finished, click **OK**.
7. In the **Confirm** dialog, click **Yes** to confirm the addition of new users to the group.
8. Assign the required Content Hub [**Modules**](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/assign-modules-to-users-and-groups.html "Assign modules to users and groups") to the user group.
9. Next to **Homepages**, click :mdiPlus: **Add**.

> [!important]
