# Manually mass edit assets

You can update the fields in multiple assets using the manual [mass edit](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/mass-edit.html "Mass edit") feature. This lets you edit specific asset fields and apply the same values to those fields across all selected assets. You can also [mass edit assets based on an existing asset or template](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/mass-edit-assets-using-an-existing-asset-or-template.html "Mass edit assets using an existing asset or template").

> [!note]
> **Before you begin**
> - Make sure the metadata fields in the source match those in the selected assets.

> [!note]
> When you manually mass edit assets, conditional members are included in results only when the condition on the mass edit page is met.

To manually mass edit assets:

1. On the menu bar, click **Assets**.
2. On the **Assets** page, [select the assets](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/select-entities.html "Select entities") you want to edit.

    > [!warning]
    > If the mass edit source contains a one-to-one relation, the mass edit job will fail for all the assets except the first one in the list. This is because a one-to-one relation cannot apply to more than one asset.

3. Click **Actions** :mdiDotsHorizontal: > :mdiPencilOutline: **Edit**.
4. On the **Manual** tab, enter new values in all the fields you want to update for selected assets.
5. For each field, from the list next to it, select one of the following actions:
    - **None** - Does not modify the value or change the property of the field.
    - **Replace** - Overwrites the current value of the field.
    - **Append** - Adds information to a field, or adds taxonomy items to a list of related items.
    - **Remove** - Removes all items from a relation or removes the current value of a field.
    - **Clear** - Removes items from a relation.

    > [!note]
    > Which actions are available depends on several factors, such as the configured member types and the mass edit settings.

6. Click **Apply**.

Applying a mass edit creates a mass edit job. You can follow the progress of the job on your [**Background processes**](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/view-background-process-logs.html "View background process logs") page.

If the job fails due to unmet validation conditions, go to the **Background Processes** page and click **Fix errors** next to the failed job. You will be redirected to the **Mass Edit** page with only the failed entities selected, allowing you to re-edit them and resolve the validation issues.
