# Match strategy examples

The following examples illustrate use cases of the different [match strategies](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/match-strategies.html "Match strategies").

> In the following examples, *France* and *Germany* are subsets of *Europe* which is in turn a subset of *World*, and *Social* is a subset of *Digital* but *Traditional* is not.

## Any

This example uses the following rights profiles with an *Any* match strategy:

| May 5, 2020 `12:00` AM | Jan 1, 2021 `12:00` AM | Europe | Digital |

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *May 8, 2020*
- End date: *December 31, 2020*
- Territory: *France*
- Media: *Digital*

The intended use matches the second rights profile, but not the first; however, since the *Any* match strategy only requires one of the rights profiles to be satisfied, the download is permitted.

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *September 8, 2020*
- End date: *December 31, 2020*
- Territory: *France*
- Media: *Traditional*

This time, the intended use does not match either of the rights profiles, so the download is denied.

## All

This example uses the following rights profiles with an *All* match strategy:

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *September 8, 2020*
- End date: *October 31, 2020*
- Territory: *France*
- Media: *Social*

The intended use matches both rights profiles; because the *All* match strategy requires all rights profiles to be satisfied, the download is permitted.

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *December 1, 2020*
- End date: *December 29, 2020*
- Territory: *Europe*
- Media: *Digital*

This time, the intended use does not match the second rights profile, so the download is denied.

## Subject-based

This example uses the following rights profiles with a [*subject-based* match strategy](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/match-strategies.html#UUID-8c6ee8a6-d22a-502b-c4eb-421a9b079d14_section-idm273524569240084 "Subject-based"):

With this strategy, the usage rights associated with each subject are combined and an optimized rights profile is calculated that satisfies both. This means that the asset can only be downloaded where the rights overlap (in terms of date, territory, and media). In other words, the asset can only be used between August 2020 and December 2020, in France, for digital media.

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *August 1, 2020*
- End date: *December 31, 2020*
- Territory: *France*
- Media: *Digital*

The intended use matches the optimized rights profile, so the download is permitted.

If you try to download an associated asset with the following intended use:

- Start date: *May 4, 2020*
- End date: *December 31, 2020*
- Territory: *France*
- Media: *Digital*

This time, the intended use does not match the optimized rights profile, so the download is denied.
