# Start a multi-stage project

When a multi-stage project is ready for work to begin, the person responsible for the first stage can activate it, marking it as *In progress*.

To start a project:

1. On the menu bar, click **Projects** > **Projects**.
2. On the **Projects** page, click the project you want to start.
3. Click the **Timeline** tab and, next to the first stage, click **More actions** :mdiDotsHorizontal:.
4. Click **Start stage**.
