# View and edit a multi-stage project timeline

The project timeline summarizes the stages of a [multi-stage project](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/multi-stage-projects.html "Multi-stage projects") in a calendar layout so you can visualize stages, milestones, and dependencies as well as quickly view the status, duration, and start and end dates of the project. The progress bar at the top of the **Timeline** tab shows the progress of the project in terms of the stages complete. A stage can have multiple preceding stages and multiple succeeding stages. A predecessor is a stage that must be finished before the succeeding stage can begin. For example, a photoshoot must be completed before the resulting photos can be used in a print layout. You can use the timeline to add or edit dependencies.

To view and edit a multi-stage project timeline:

1. On the menu bar, click **Project** > **Projects**.
2. On the **Projects** page, click the multi-stage project you are interested in.
3. On the project details page, click the **Timeline** tab. You can use this tab to [add stages](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/add-a-stage.html "Add a stage") and [milestones](https://doc.sitecore.com/ch/en/users/content-hub/add-a-milestone.html "Add a milestone"), if needed.
4. To manipulate stages, milestones, and dependencies interactively, on the chart, move the slider to change the start and end dates (that is, the duration) of a stage or to move a milestone.
5. Use the arrow connectors to add dependencies.
6. If needed, click **Actions** ![More actions icon](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/ch/en/users/content-hub/images/more-actions-chone.png) next to any stage and choose from the following:

    | Action | Description |
    | --- | --- |
    | **Start stage** | Changes the stage status from *Not started* to *In progress*. If this is the first stage of the project, this action effectively starts the project. |
    | **Complete stage** | Changes the stage status from *In progress* to *Complete*. If this is the final stage of the project, this action effectively finishes the project. |
    | **Reset stage** | Changes the stage status from *Complete* to *Not started*. |
    | **Complete milestone** | Changes the milestone status from *Not started* to *Done*. If this is the final stage of the project, this action effectively finishes the project. |
    | **Reset milestone** | Changes the milestone status from *Done* to *Not started*. |
    | **Edit** | For stages, lets you edit the stage and change its status to *Not started* or *In progress*. |
    | **Edit** | For milestones, lets you change the milestone status to *Not started*. |
    | **Quick view** | Displays the details page for the stage or milestone. |
    | **Add sub-stage** | Adds a sub-stage to the current stage. |
    | **Add linked stage** | Adds a linked stage to the current stage or milestone. |
    | **Add linked milestone** | Adds a linked milestone to the current stage or milestone. |
    | **Delete** | All statuses |

> [!note]
> When you modify the duration of a stage or add a predecessor relation to a stage, Sitecore Content Hub recalculates the start date, end date, and overall duration of the multi-stage project.
