Create a template for target items

Abstract

How to map data from a text file to a Sitecore item by creating a target item template in Sitecore Data Exchange Framework.

In this example, each row from a text file represents information about a city. The data synchronization process maps the data from the text file to a Sitecore item. You must create a Sitecore template to store this information.

Create a template

To create a template:

  1. In Sitecore Content Editor, navigate to Templates.

  2. In the menu ribbon, on the Home tab, click New Template to add a new template.

  3. Enter the following values:

    Name

    City Information

    Base template

    Templates/System/Templates/Standard Template

  4. Click Next.

    Select name dialog
  5. In the Location window, select Templates/User Defined. Click Next.

  6. In the confirmation window, click Close.

Set an icon

To set an icon:

  1. Select the new template.

  2. Click the Content tab.

  3. Click the icon next to title.

  4. In the Change Icon window, in the Icon field, enter Office/32x32/pin.png

  5. Click OK.

Add a field

To add a field:

  1. On the Builder tab, type Data in the Add a new section field to add a new template section.

  2. In the Data section, add the following fields:

    Name

    Type

    Shared

    Identifier

    Single-Line Text

    selected

    Country

    Single-Line Text

    City

    Single-Line Text

    When you are done, the section should look like this:

  3. Save the item.
