# Event specifications

For experiences such as Search and Recommendation to work properly and for meaningful analytics to be generated, you must regularly send events to the Discover system.

Sitecore Discover supports the following types of events:

- [Funnel events](https://doc.sitecore.com/discover/en/developers/discover-developer-guide/integrate-using-discover-rest-apis/events-data-model/event-specifications/funnel-events.html "Funnel events") - Generated when a user adds an item to their cart or wishlist, completes an order, and so on.
- [Preview search widget events](https://doc.sitecore.com/discover/en/developers/discover-developer-guide/integrate-using-discover-rest-apis/events-data-model/event-specifications/preview-search-widget-events.html "Preview search widget events") - Generated when a user sees or interacts with a preview search widget.
