# Add a rule to a widget variation

To add a rule and publish a widget variation:

1. In the Customer Engagement Console (CEC), on the menu bar, click **Widgets**.
2. On the **Widgets** tab, click the name of the widget you want to open.
3. On the **Widget Variations** tab, click the name of the widget variation you want to open
4. On the **Rules** tab, click **Add Rule**.
5. Click **Save**.
6. Click **Publish**.

    > **Publish** is enabled only if there are unpublished changes to the variation.
    >
    > Visitors can only see published changes.
