Create a link in a rich text field in Horizon

This topic describes how to create a link in a rich text field in Horizon. You can create the following types of links:

  • External link (link to a page on an external website), using Pages or Content.

  • Internal link (link to a Sitecore item), using Content.

You can use either Pages or Content to create links to external content. This procedure describes how to complete the task in the page editor.

To create a link to an external site:

  1. In the page editor, in a rich text field, select the text that you want to format as a link.

    Note

    You can also create a link on an image. Instead of selecting text to format as a link, select the image.

  2. In the rich text editor panel, click the Create or edit hyperlink icon The create link icon.

  3. In the Link details panel, in the Path field, enter the URL of the webpage you want to link to.

  4. In the Target field, specify how you want the link to open in a browser. For example, specify that you want the link to open in a new tab or window.

  5. In the Link title field, you can enter the text that appears when a visitor hovers the cursor over the link.

  6. To test the URL, click Test URL.

  7. Click Close The Close icon to close the Link details panel.

    The link is automatically saved.

Note

To edit or remove a hyperlink in the page editor, you must select the entire text that is formatted as a link. Then you can edit the fields in the Link details panel or click Remove link.

You must use the Content application to create internal links. You can only link to items that have a presentation layer (pages).

To create an internal link:

  1. In Content, in the rich text editor, select the text that you want to format as a link.

  2. In the rich text editor panel, click the Create or edit hyperlink iconThe create link icon .

  3. In the Add link panel, in the Link type field, select Internal.

  4. The Link text field contains the text that will be formatted as a link.

  5. Click Browse next to the Path field. In the Internal page link dialog, navigate to the page you want to link to and then click Add link.

  6. Specify Optional parameters as needed:

    To display a tooltip when a visitor hovers the cursor over the link, enter a text.

    URL query string

    The field contains parameters for the URL, such as language or site. Enter additional parameters if you want.

    Anchor

    To link to an anchor on the page, enter the anchor ID. (You must also insert the anchor.)

  7. Click Save link.
