Edit or reset a field in Content

Current version: 10.1

In the Horizon editor, you edit the latest publishable version of the content. To edit an earlier version of the content, or a version that is not currently publishable, use the Content Editor.

When you open a content item in the Horizon Content application, you can see all of the fields in the content item. The template that the content item is based on determines what fields are included in the item. The template also determines whether a field is:

  • Versioned - applies only to the current version of the item in the current language.

  • Unversioned - shared by all versions in the same language.

  • Shared - shared by all versions in all languages.

Edit a field in Content

Each of the fields on an item is based on a field type, and each field type can contain a specific type of information. This task describes how to edit the various field types.

To edit a field in Content:

  1. Navigate to the content item that you want to edit.

    Note

Horizon supports concurrent editing, and items are not locked during editing. The auto-save feature ensures that changes are saved quickly and often.

  2. Select the relevant language version.

  3. Click the field you want to edit and enter your content. Depending on which type of field you edit, you have different options of what information you can enter.

All fields belong to one of the following types:

    • Simple text (single-line or multi-line) - You can only enter text; you cannot apply formatting. The number of characters you can enter depends on the template that the item is based on.

    • Rich text - Click Edit content to open the Rich Text Editor, where you can enter or edit text, apply formatting, and insert links. In the Rich Text Editor dialog, you can select the HTML editor tab to edit the HTML code for the text.

    • Checkbox - A checkbox field is displayed as a toggle switch in Content. Click the switch to enable or disable it.

    • Number (number or integer) - Depending on the template, a number field may have restrictions, such as whole numbers only, or number of decimal places.

    • Date – You can either enter the date in the field or click the calendar icon The calendar icon to select the date.

    • Time - You can either enter the time or click the clock icon The time icon to select the time from the drop-down menu.

    • Checklist - You can select any number of checkboxes in the list.

    • Image -You can insert an image from your media library or digital asset manager (DAM) or upload a new image file. Image fields support the following file types: .jpeg (or .jpg), .gif, .png, .svg, .bmp, and .ico

    • Link - You can add and edit an internal link (a link to content in your Sitecore solution), an external link (a link to a URL), or a media link (a link to a media file).

    • File - You can insert a link to a file of any type (for example, a document, image, or video, with any file extension), with size up to 2 GB. You upload the file from your computer.

    • Drop-down menu - You can use a drop-down menu to select a Sitecore item.

To clear the field, select None.

There are two types of drop-down menus that a developer can include in a content item template. A drop tree allows the user to select from a list with folders. By default, the tree includes the entire content tree from the site root. To only show part of the content tree, the developer can assign a data source to the drop tree. A drop list shows a simple list of items, and the developer must assign a data source to the drop list.

    Note

The Rich Text Editor requires you to actively save or discard your changes when you close the editor. For all other types of fields, your changes are saved automatically when you navigate away from the field.

Reset a field to its standard value

If a field inherits a standard value from the template that the item is based on, then the Standard value tag appears below the field name. If you change the value in the field, the Standard value tag is removed, and the Reset link appears.

To reset a field to its standard value:

  • In the Content application, below the field name, click Reset.

If a field does not have a standard value, then all inserted data in the field is cleared when you click Reset.
