# Creating a Content SDK app

To get started with Content SDK, you need to create an app.

> [!note]
> **Before you begin**
> - Confirm that you have all of the [prerequisites](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/developers/content-sdk/20/prerequisites.html "Prerequisites") to work with Content SDK.

You can build a Content SDK app locally based on the [Content SDK starter repository](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/). You can then use this app to replace the one generated by SitecoreAI.

## New starter repository

The repository includes [2 starter applications](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/tree/main/examples) in the `/examples` folder:

- `basic-nextjs`
- `basic-spa`

In addition to the starters, there are four example apps focusing on different use cases:

- `kit-nextjs-article-starter` ([Solterra & Co.](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/tree/main/examples/kit-nextjs-article-starter))
- `kit-nextjs-location-starter` ([Alaris](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/tree/main/examples/kit-nextjs-location-finder))
- `kit-nextjs-product-starter` ([SYNC](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/tree/main/examples/kit-nextjs-product-listing))
- `kit-nextjs-skate-park` ([Basic](https://github.com/Sitecore/xmcloud-starter-js/tree/main/examples/kit-nextjs-skate-park))

When you have your local app, you need to [connect it to your SitecoreAI instance](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/developers/content-sdk/20/connect-your-content-sdk-app-to-sitecoreai.html "Connect your Content SDK app to SitecoreAI") using environment variables. You can also [install the Content SDK CLI](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/developers/content-sdk/20/install-the-content-sdk-cli.html "Install the Content SDK CLI"), which provides various commands for working with your Content SDK apps.
