# Components

The Component builder is a Front End as a Service application that lets you create your brand’s style guide and prototype visual components in a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.

The *Styles library* is a design system that ensures visual consistency across all components prototyped in the Component builder. The library comes with out-of-the-box predefined [basic styles](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/creating-your-styles-library/define-style-basics.html "Define style basics"), and you are expected to build upon those to [create themes](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/creating-your-styles-library/compose-a-theme.html "Compose a theme") that will define your brand in all the components you prototype for your website.

The Component builder lets you work on styles on your own, or [share your library](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/get-started-with-the-component-builder/shared-libraries.html "Shared libraries") with coworkers from the same organization. Once you are satisfied with your themes, you can [stage and publish them](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/styling-components/stage-and-publish-styles.html "Stage and publish styles") so they are available in Page builder and on the live website. This ultimately allows you to [change the style](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/styling-components/style-a-component-with-a-theme.html "Style a component with a theme") of your entire website in just a few clicks.

The *Component builder* is a powerful tool that lets you prototype new components or modify imported components using an intuitive WYSIWYG builder. You can [create a component from scratch](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/prototyping-components/use-elements-to-build-components.html "Use elements to build components") or [import an existing component](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/wrapping-code-in-a-component/add-an-external-component-to-the-component-builder.html "Add an external component to the Component builder") in the builder to prototype and style it further. You can [map dynamic data](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/components/adding-dynamic-content-to-a-component/manage-dynamic-content.html "Manage dynamic content") to your component, or create responsive components that will render differently for different device types. All components and their versions are organized in collections.

With the Component builder, content authors, UX designers, and marketers can work in parallel to speed up the process of creating on-brand digital experiences for their customers.
