# Create a smart brief

A [brief](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/managing-briefs.html "Managing briefs") defines the goals, audience, messaging, and key milestones for a campaign or initiative.

You can create a smart brief from either of the following locations:

- [Briefs tab](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/create-a-smart-brief.html#create-a-brief-from-the-briefs-tab) in the campaign overview page

You can add content manually or use the AI Assistant to generate text and build a timeline with key milestones.

## Create a brief from the Briefs page

To create a smart brief from the **Briefs** page:

1. In the navigation menu, click **Strategy**.
2. In the left sidebar, select **Briefs**.
3. On the **Briefs** page, click **Create brief**.
4. In the **Create brief** dialog, select a [brief type](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/brief-types.html "Brief types"), then click **Create brief**.
5. To rename the brief, click its default name at the top of the page, enter a new name, and press Enter.
6. Complete the required [fields](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/managing-briefs.html "Managing briefs"). Depending on the field type, you can optionally use the following:
    - **Rich text fields** - use the toolbar to [format text](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/brief-types/formatting-rich-text-fields.html "Formatting rich text fields").
    - [Fields with AI Assistant](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/generate-brief-content-using-ai.html "Generate brief content using AI"), use AI to generate text:
        - Click the **AI Assistant** icon :mdiStarFourPoints{color="#5319E0"}: on the toolbar.
        - Enter a prompt describing the content you want to generate.
        - Click **Send** :mdiSend:.
        - Refine the generated draft, then refine the prompt and regenerate it if needed.
        - Click **Accept** to insert the content.
    - **Timeline field** - use AI to generate milestones:
        - Click :mdiStarFourPoints{color="#5319E0"}: **AI Suggestions**.
        - Review the generated suggestions.
        - Regenerate or remove suggestions as needed.
        - Click **Accept** to insert the timeline.
7. To upload supporting media, click :mdiTrayArrowUp: **Upload**.
8. Click **Save**.

The new brief is added to the **Briefs** page. You can then [link it to one or more campaigns](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/link-a-brief-to-a-campaign.html "Link a brief to a campaign") as needed.

## Create a brief from the Briefs tab

To create a smart brief from a campaign's **Briefs** tab:

1. In the navigation menu, click **Strategy**.
2. In the left sidebar, select **Campaigns**.
3. On the **Campaigns** page, select the campaign for which you want to create a brief.
4. On the campaign's **Overview** page, click the **Briefs** tab.
5. Click **Add brief**, then select **Create manually**.
6. In the **Create brief** dialog, select a [brief type](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/brief-types.html "Brief types"), then click **Create brief**.
7. To rename the brief, click its default name at the top of the page, enter a new name, and press Enter.
8. Complete the required [fields](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-briefs/managing-briefs.html "Managing briefs"). Depending on the field type, you can optionally use the following:

        - Click the **AI Assistant** icon :mdiStarFourPoints{color="#5319E0"}: on the toolbar.
        - Enter a prompt describing the content you want to generate.
        - Click **Send** :mdiSend:.

    - **Timeline field** - use AI to generate milestones:

        - Click **Accept** to insert the timeline.
9. To upload supporting media, click :mdiTrayArrowUp: **Upload**.
10. Click **Save**.

The new brief is added to the **Briefs** page and  appears on the campaign's [Briefs tab](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/managing-campaigns/managing-campaigns.html#briefs).
