# Configure Brand Assistant information sources

The Brand Assistant in SitecoreAI uses *information sources* to generate responses. You can independently configure which sources the Brand Assistant accesses for [general queries](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/using-the-brand-assistant/use-the-brand-assistant-for-brand-aware-chats.html "Use the Brand Assistant for brand-aware chats"), [brainstorming](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/using-the-brand-assistant/generate-long-form-content-using-brainstorming.html "Generate long-form content using brainstorming"), and [brief generation](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/plan-campaign-strategy/using-the-brand-assistant/generate-a-campaign-brief.html "Generate a campaign brief").

By default, both *knowledge search* and *web search* are selected, allowing the Brand Assistant to draw from both your [brand knowledge](https://doc.sitecore.com/sai/en/users/sitecoreai/design-components/brand-kits/brand-knowledge.html "Brand knowledge") and web sources to produce comprehensive and relevant responses.

> The information sources you select here is applied globally across all chats and brand kits.

To configure the Brand Assistant information sources:

1. In the navigation menu, click **Strategy**. Then, in the left sidebar, select **Assistant**.
2. In the top-left corner of the chat interface, click **Tool configuration** :mdiTuneVariant:.

    The **Assistant configuration** dialog opens with options to customize how the Brand Assistant generates responses.

3. On the **General** tab, both knowledge search and web search are selected by default for all features: **General queries**, **Brainstorming**, and **Brief**.

    For each section, select the information sources you want the Brand Assistant to use. You must select **at least one information source** in each section:

    - **Web search** - the Brand Assistant searches the web for current information and trends. Disable this if you want responses based only on your brand knowledge.
    - **Knowledge search** - the Brand Assistant accesses your brand knowledge. Disable this to use only web-based information.
4. Your changes are saved automatically. Click **Close** to exit the **Assistant configuration** dialog.
