# Add or remove a user

If you have [sufficient permissions](https://doc.sitecore.com/search/en/users/search-user-guide/administer-your-installation/managing-roles-in-sitecore-search.html "Managing roles in Sitecore Search"), you can invite new users to or remove users from a domain.

How you add or remove users depends on whether Search has been activated in the Sitecore Cloud Portal for your organization.

- If your organization has been migrated to the Cloud Portal, use [these instructions](https://doc.sitecore.com/portal/en/developers/sitecore-cloud-portal/en/invite-users-to-your-sitecore-cloud-portal-organization.html) to invite new users and [these instructions](https://doc.sitecore.com/portal/en/developers/sitecore-cloud-portal/en/manage-the-access-of-a-user.html) to remove them.

## Add a new user

If your organization has not yet been migrated to the Cloud Portal, you can add users directly.

> If your organization *has* been migrated to the Cloud Portal, do not use this method to [add users](https://doc.sitecore.com/portal/en/developers/sitecore-cloud-portal/en/invite-users-to-your-sitecore-cloud-portal-organization.html). Any changes you make will not persist.

To add a new user:

1. On the menu bar, click **Administration**.
2. Click **Manage Users**.
3. On the **Users** page, click **Invite User**.
4. In the text field, enter the email address of the person you want to invite.
5. Click **Add Role** and select the role you want to assign to the user.
6. Click **Invite**.

## Remove a user

If your organization has not yet been migrated to the Cloud Portal, you can remove users directly.

To remove a user:

1. On the menu bar, click **Administration** ![menu_admin_icon.png](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/search/en/users/search-user-guide/images/menu_admin_icon.png).
2. Click **Manage Users**.
3. To search for a specific user, enter their name or email address in the search bar.
4. In the table, hover your mouse over the user you want to remove.
5. On the right side of the row, click **Remove user from domain** ![Blacklist_grey.png](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/search/en/users/search-user-guide/images/Blacklist_grey.png).
6. In the dialog box that appears, click **Remove**.
