# Edit an entity

After creating an entity in Search, you can change the entity's name and attribute template settings.

> [!important]
> Renaming a custom entity can result in the loss of related attributes and configurations, including widget rules, for that entity.

To edit an entity:

1. On the menu bar, click **Administration** > **Domain Settings**.
2. On the **General Settings** tab, click **Entities**.
3. On the **Entities** card, click **Edit**.
4. On the left side of the page, click the entity you want to edit.
5. To change the name of the entity, in the **Enter entity name** field, click ![pencil_grey.png](https://doc.sitecore.com/api/markdown-image/search/en/users/search-user-guide/images/pencil_grey.png), then enter the new name.

    > [!note]
    > You can't edit the title for the default entities such as the *Content* entity.

6. To change the base attributes for this entity, in the **Attribute Template** drop-down menu, select an option. The base attributes are displayed below, in the **Attributes** section, and differ depending on which template you select.
7. Click **Save**.
8. To publish the changes, click **Publish**.
