Manage users and user roles

User roles in Sitecore Search give users different capabilities.

The following table lists the various roles and permissions for Search, together with the permissions granted by each:

These permissions differ depending on whether Search has been activated in the Sitecore Cloud Portal for your organization.

Role

Description

Viewer

If your organization does not use the Cloud Portal to manage user roles, users with the Viewer role cannot change any configurations, but they have permission to view the following pages:

  • Pages

  • Widgets

  • Analytics

  • Global resources

  • Content collection

If your organization uses the Cloud Portal to manage roles, the Viewer role has the same permissions as the User role.

Important

Regardless of whether your organization uses the Cloud Portal, users with this role cannot access the Administration or Developer Resources pages.

User

If your organization does not use the Cloud Portal to manage roles, the User role has the same permissions as the Viewer role, in addition to the following:

  • Creating pages and widgets

  • Editing page and global widget settings

  • Creating and editing rules

Note

If your organization uses the Cloud Portal, the User role does not exist. Use the Viewer role instead.

Important

Users with this role cannot access the Administration or Developer Resources pages.

Developer

Includes the same permissions as the User role, with additional permissions for using developer resources.

Important

Users with this role cannot access the Administration page.

Admin

Includes the same permissions as the Developer role, with additional permissions for exploring content collection and visitors data. If you have not yet been migrated to the Cloud Portal, this role includes permissions to invite new users and add or remove roles for users.

TechAdmin

Includes the same permissions as the Developer role, with additional permissions for creating and changing domain configuration (domain settings), working with sources, and exploring content collection and visitors data. If you have not yet been migrated to the Cloud Portal, this role includes permissions to invite new users and add or remove roles for users.

Important

If your organization is using the Cloud Portal, only an Organization Owner or Organization Admin can manage users.
