Configure search ranking

You can use the search ranking feature to fine-tune search results using certain attributes.

This walkthrough describes how to:

Enable the search ranking feature for an attribute

In order to use an attribute for search ranking, you must first enable the search ranking feature for that attribute.

To enable search ranking for an attribute:

  1. Click Administration > Domain Settings > Attributes.

  2. To filter the list of attributes by entity, in the Entity drop-down menu, select the check box for the type of entity you want to show and click Apply.

  3. To search for the attribute you want to edit, in the search bar, enter the attribute name. Then click the attribute in the tabular list. This opens the attribute editing dialog.

  4. On the Use For Features tab, select the Search ranking check box.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional attributes you want to use for the Search ranking feature.

  6. Click Apply, then click Save.

    Important

After completing this step, you must reindex your content for this configuration to take effect.

Set up search ranking in the global widget

To activate the search ranking feature on your domain, you must assign a weight to each of the attributes for which search ranking is enabled. You can assign the weight in the global widget, which affects all widgets across your domain.

Note

You can use this same process to assign weights to attributes for a specific widget variation. You can do this instead of, or in addition to, the global widget. As with all features, anything configured at the individual widget level overrides global configuration.

To set up the search ranking feature in the global widget:

  1. On the menu bar, click Global Resources > Global Widget.

  2. On the Global Widget Settings tab, click the Search ranking card.

  3. Click the down arrow to expand the attribute you want to configure.

  4. Use the Weight slider to set the attribute weight.

    Tip

If this is the first time you are setting up search ranking, we recommend that you set the weight of all attributes to the same value no higher than 1. If, after this initial configuration, you find that further fine-tuning is necessary, increase or decrease weights by increments of 0.1.

  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for any additional attributes you want to configure.

  6. Click Save, then click Publish.
