# Import recipients

Sitecore Send lets you import your email recipients by copying and pasting data, using TXT, CSV, or Excel files and through available plugins.

When importing, Sitecore Send ensures that your email list is free from any duplicates or unsubscribed members. If you notice a decrease in the number of members on your list, it is likely due to Sitecore Send system checks.

The available import methods are described in the following sections.

## Import using a TXT or CSV file

You can import your email list contacts using files of the .csv or .txt type up to 40 MB in size. If your data contains any special characters, you must upload a UTF-8 file to ensure compatibility.

To import contacts using a CSV or TXT file:

1. On the menu bar, click **Audience** > **Email lists**.
2. Click the name of the email list that you want to add contacts to.
3. On the menu on the left, click **Perform bulk actions**.
4. On the **Choose Bulk Action** page, navigate to **Import Members into List** and click **Select**.
5. In the pop-up dialog that appears, navigate to the **CSV/TXT File** option and click **Select**.
6. On the **Data selection** tab, click **Browse** and select the file that you want to import.

    > [!note]
    > If the separator in your file is not a tab, a comma, a semicolon, or a pipe delimiter, you must enter it in the **Enter a custom separator** field.

7. If you have the consent from all subscribers on the list through the double opt-in process, select the **Yes, add them as verified, I do have consent from these members** check box and click **Next**.
8. On the **Data Mapping** tab, click each drop-down list and select the default **Email** field or any created custom field. If you want to map a specific column to a field, click the **Map to** drop-down list, select the field to use, and click **Next**.

    > [!note]
    > If you have not mapped all uploaded data to their corresponding fields, a pop-up dialog asks you to confirm that you want to ignore any unmapped columns. Click **Ignore and continue**.

9. On the **Notification** tab, select if and how you want to be notified when the import process has been completed. Click **Import** to start the process.
