# Pause or restart an automation

Although it's easy to create a custom automation, it's not always possible to predict all your requirements. You might need to stop an automation and redesign it.

> Disabling or modifying an automation will halt users at their current step in the flow. When the automation is re-enabled, these users will not continue in the flow. We recommend setting up your automation and keeping it enabled.

To pause an automation:

1. On the menu bar, click **Automation**.
2. On the **My Automation Workflows** page, find the automation you want to pause.
3. In the **Status** column, set the **Active** toggle switch to *Inactive*.

To restart an automation:

1. On the menu bar, click **Automation**.
2. On the **My Automation Workflows** page, find the automation you want to restart.
3. In the **Status** column, set the **Inactive** toggle switch to *Active*.
