Make a custom component available in Pages or Experience Editor

To let content authors add components to pages in XM Cloud Pages or Experience Editor, you need to add your custom component to a component category. In this example, you create a new component category named Custom Components and then add a component named Custom component 1.

Note

Because the standard component categories used in XM Cloud Pages and in the Experience Editor toolbox are overwritten with SXA updates, we recommend that you create a separate component category for your custom components.

To make the component available in your preferred editor:

  1. Navigate to sitecore/Content/[site]/Presentation.

  2. Right-click Available Renderings > Available Renderings. Enter a name, for example, Custom Components.

  3. In the Data section, click Edit.

  4. In the dialog, navigate to Layout/Renderings/Feature and double-click your component. Click OK.

  5. Click Available Renderings and, in the Data section, select the Group renderings in sections according to Available Renderings items in the site check box.

  6. Save your changes.

  7. To check that the component is available in your preferred editor, open a page in, for example, Pages, and click the Components tab.
