Working with Pages

XM Cloud Pages is a WYSIWYG application where you can create new pages for your website, as well as edit existing pages. XM Cloud Pages combines editing and design capabilities for building web pages. With Pages, you can create any number of websites, in any language, and publish any versions of the pages composing your website at any time of your choosing.

Autosaving, undoing, redoing, previewing and publishing

XM Cloud Pages saves your changes automatically at regular intervals, or when you click away from the field that you are editing.

You can undo your edits, or inversely reinstate undone changes .

You can also preview your webpage in a separate page of your browser with clicking Preview .

When you create new pages or edit existing pages in XM Cloud Pages, you must publish your changes so they appear on your website. This lets you save unfinished items and decide exactly when your changes appear on the website.

Note

You can only publish pages from XM Cloud Pages Editor mode, but some of the elements included in the page have to be published from the app where they were created and edited:

  • Page and partial designs must be published from the XM Cloud Pages Templates mode.

  • Content items must published from XM Cloud Explorer or the Content Editor.

  • Sitecore components and styles must be published from XM Cloud Components.

Concurrent editing

XM Cloud is designed to let various users work simultaneously on the same content. In XM Cloud Pages, the tracking of changes happens at the field level. So, if user A edits field 1, and user B edits field 2 on the same page, both changes can be automatically saved without any issues.

However, all layout changes in the same page (such as adding, removing, or rearranging components, or changing the data source for a component) are considered as changes of the same field. In this case, all users working on the page will get the following notification: The item has been modified. Reload the item to see the latest changes.

This notification is usually displayed when the page that is currently open in your browser has been modified by another user, but it can also show if you yourself have modified the page in a different tab of the browser. In both cases, to ensure that you work on an updated page that includes all latest changes, as well as to avoid overwriting any new changes, refresh the browser tab when you see the notification and before you continue editing the page.
