Link settings

Note

This topic explains how to configure components previously built with Content Editor. If you want to learn about components built with XM Cloud Components instead, visit the XM Cloud Components documentation.

In a general link field in XM Cloud Pages, you can insert one of the following types of links:

  • An external link - to a URL outside your site

  • An internal link - to a page in your instance

    Note

When you create an internal link, Sitecore uses the item ID to identify the item. This means that the link is not broken if you rename the item or restructure your site.

  • A media item - to a media from your XM Cloud Media library or from Content Hub DAM if you have one connected to your XM Cloud instance.

To edit a link:

  1. In a page containing a link, click on the link you want to modify.

  2. In the right-hand pane, in the Link type field, click the drop-down menu and select the link type (external or internal).

  3. In the Link text field, enter the text that you want to appear as a hyperlink in your published content.

  4. Specify what you want to link to:

    • For an external link, enter a link text and the URL.

    • For an internal link, enter a link text, then click Browse and select the page that you want to link to and click Add link.

      Note

When you select a page, if Context language is selected in the language selector, then no language parameter is saved with the link. The link will open the specified page in the language that is current when a visitor clicks the link.

Similarly, if you select Context site in the site selector, then no site parameter is saved with the link, and the site that is linked to depends on the location of the page in the content tree and how your sites are configured.

    • For a media item, enter a link text, then click Browse and select the media item that you want to link to. You can also upload a new media if needed. Then click Add selected.

  5. Edit the remaining fields as needed.
