Work with site analytics

You can view the analytics data relating to your website in two XM Cloud tools: Analytics and the page builder Analyze mode.

Access site insights in the page builder Analyze mode

To view site analytics in the page builder Analyze mode:

  1. Open the page builder and in the side toolbar click the Analyze tab.

  2. In the global toolbar, select the site and language of the website for which you want to access the analytics data.

  3. In the Time field at the top of the screen, select the time period for which you want to see data.

When you specify a time period, the dashboard refreshes immediately to show the relevant data. After this, the data refreshes every minute.

Access site insights in Analytics

To view site analytics in Analytics:

  1. Open Analytics, and click Site.

  2. In the drop-down menu, click the analytics identifier assigned to the site for which you want analytics data.

  3. In the time drop-down menu, click the time period for which you want to see data for.

Site engagement metrics

Analyze in the page builder and Analytics give insights on traffic to your entire website by displaying each a selection of the following metrics:

  • Visitors - the count of individuals who have one or more visits to a site or page during the selected time period.

  • Average time on site - the average amount of time in minutes:seconds spent on the site or page by visitors.

  • Visits - the total number of active visits to the website or page in the time period. A visit encompasses all the pages viewed and the actions (such as clicking links) a visitor takes from the moment they enter a website until the moment they leave. Over time, a visitor can make many visits to a website. A visit ends when the visitor manually closes the browser, or if the visit reaches the allowed period of inactivity.

  • Bounce rate - the proportion of visits that only had a single page view.

  • Views - the count of page views, triggered each time a visitor loads or refreshes a page of a website.

  • Visits or Views or Visitors as graph - the count of active and closed visits, views, or visitors that occurred on your website in the time period, with a trend comparing this count to the one from the previous period. Hover the mouse over data points to show the individual values.

    Note

This time series reports on active and closed visits over the time period, so it is not possible to sum these values to get a total number of active visits, because the visits that were active for over an hour would be double-counted.

  • Visits by time of day - the sum of closed visits (no longer active) to the website or page for each hour and day of the week, shown as a heatmap. The darker the color gradient, the higher the count. Hover over a square to see the data that the square represents.

    Note

The heatmap only reports on sessions that closed during the time period.

  • Top pages (only in Pages Analyze) - the name of the top ten pages or variants that were visited across visits during the time period.

  • Top countries - the name of the top five countries in Pages Analyze, and in XM Cloud Analytics, the proportion of the top countries from which a visit originated.

    Note

Country data relies on IP addresses and the data can be misleading when visitors use a VPN to access your site.

  • First page (only in Pages Analyze) - the name of the five top pages that were the first page of a visit, for this period and the previous one, as well as how these pages trended between these time periods.

  • Source - the count of visits by source in Pages Analyze, and the percentage of visits by source in XM Cloud Analytics. The source is derived from referrer data, meaning the last web address accessed by a browser prior to loading this particular webpage. For example, the referrer is google.com if the visitor accessed the page from a Google search.

  • Browser - the top five browsers in Pages Analyze, and in Analytics, the proportion of the different browsers used to access your site.

  • Operating system - the operating systems that were used to access your site.

In addition to absolute values, the dashboard provides trends data, comparing data from the current time period to the one from the previous period.
