Manage public links to a DAM asset

Version: 5.2

You can use the General Link field type in Sitecore to link to media items stored in Sitecore. With the DAM part of Sitecore Connect for Content Hub (SCCH), you can also use a General Link field to insert a public link to a DAM asset.

Note

Before you can use this feature, you must configure the DAM part of the SCCH connector.

To insert an asset public link in a General Link field:

  1. In the Content Editor, under the Templates folder, create a new template or choose one you have already created, in the example, Sample item. Click Add a new field, select the type General Link and name it, for example, GeneralLink_Test. Click Save.

The Builder tab in the Sample template, with new general link type field highlighted.
  2. Navigate to Sitecore/content/home. On the Content tab, locate the GeneralLink_Test section. Click Insert DAM Link.

The Content Tab in the Home item, highlighting the Insert Dam Link button.

Alternatively, click the Insert DAM Link button from the Experience Editor:

  3. In the Insert DAM link dialog, select an asset to insert. The GeneralLink_Test field now shows the public link for the asset. If you included additional attributes they are also shown in the link.

  4. Save the item.

If you want to include additional asset attributes, for example, to control how the asset is displayed, you can include these additional field attributes in the General Link.

To add attributes to the General Link:

  1. In the Content Editor, navigate to Sitecore/Templates/Modules/DAM/Config/Mapping/General link field. On the Folder tab, in the Options section, click Attribute.

  2. Name the attribute, for example, FileSize.

  3. On the Content tab, in the Definition section, enter values for the following fields:

    Field name

    Description

    Content Hub Attribute

The name of attribute from the Content Hub asset that you want to include in the link. For example, filesize, width, height, or resolution.

    Sitecore Attribute

A customized name that appears in the General Link for the Content Hub attribute.

  4. On the Menu ribbon, on the View tab, select Raw values. This allows the General Link to show the selected attributes.

  5. Navigate to Sitecore/content/home. On the Content tab, locate the GeneralLink_Test section. Click Insert DAM Link.

  6. In the Insert DAM link dialog, select the asset with the attribute. The GeneralLink_Test field now shows the public link for the asset, including the additional attributes:
