Customize an alert

A triggered alert sends an email message to preconfigured recipients when a predefined condition occurs; for example, when a diagnostic value exceeds a specified threshold. In the Azure portal, you can update your alerts, create new alerts, and adjust the frequency of alerts.

This topic describes how to customize the alerts provisioned by the Sitecore Azure Monitoring and Alerts Basic module.

Prerequisites

Before you can customize, create, or update an alert, you must have the following:

  • A Microsoft Azure portal subscription and portal credentials.

  • A Microsoft Azure Operations Management Suite (Azure Monitor) with the Sitecore Azure Monitoring and Alerts Basic module installed.

  • General knowledge about Azure Monitor, including its basic settings and features.

Modify an existing alert

To modify an existing alert:

  1. To see a list of alerts in the Azure portal, click Monitor, Alerts.

  2. In the Subscription and Resource group fields, click the relevant subscription and resource group that you want to modify.

  3. Click Manage alert rules and click the alert rule that you want to edit.

  4. On the Rules Management page, enter the relevant properties for each section of the alert:

    • Define alert condition - define the target log analytics and the query properties.

    • Define alert details - assign a name, description, and a level of severity for the alert.

    • Define action group - define the email address of target users and the alert trigger actions.

  5. To save your changes, click Save.

Create a new alert

To create a new alert:

  1. In the Azure portal, click Monitor, Alerts, and then click New alert rule.

  2. On the Rules management page, in the Create rule section, enter the relevant properties for each section of the new alert:

    • Define alert condition - define the target log analytics and the query properties.

    • Define alert details - assign a name, description, and a level of severity for the alert.

    • Define action group - define the email address of target users and the alert trigger actions.

Update the frequency of an alert

To update how often Azure Monitoring and Alerts Basic triggers an alert:

  1. In the Azure portal, click Monitor, Alerts, and then click Manage alert rules.

  2. Click your relevant subscription and resource group.

  3. On the Rules management page, in the Configure signal logic panel on the right, in the Evaluated based on section, in the Frequency (in minutes) field, enter your changes.

    Changing the frequency of an alert can change the estimated monthly cost:

  4. Under Define alert condition, Alert criteria, check that you have selected the right criteria .
