# The xDB to CDP migration tool

To [use the migration tool](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/100/sitecore-experience-platform/use-the-xdb-to-cdp-migration-tool.html "Use the xDB to CDP migration tool"), you need to [download](https://developers.sitecore.com/downloads/xDB_to_CDP_Migration) and import the `xDB to CDP migration` package to your Sitecore Connect instance. The package:

1. Extracts the data from xDB.
2. Transforms the data to a format that can be interpreted by CDP.
3. Transfers the data to CDP.

The migration tool consists of two connections and four recipes.

## Connections

- Sitecore XP Connection - responsible for establishing connection to the xDB database.
- Sitecore CDP Connection - responsible for establishing connection to Sitecore CDP.

## Recipes

The xDB to CDP Migration tool contains 4 recipes:

- `[XCM] REC001 | Processing Recipe Trigger` - responsible for repeatedly triggering the `[XCM] REC002 | Load And Transform Contacts From xDB` recipe until all the contacts are processed.

    > Only built-in facets are mapped to guest data extensions in CDP. If you have custom facets, you need to configure the mappings *before* [running](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/100/sitecore-experience-platform/use-the-xdb-to-cdp-migration-tool.html#UUID-17dc8548-b1c5-c2f9-3912-7b085b0f9318_section-idm4494637882256034244671056274 "Run the migration tool") the triggering recipe.

- `[XCM] REC002 | Load And Transform Contacts From xDB` - responsible for extracting and transforming the data from xDB.
- `[XCM] REC003 | Upload Contacts to CDP` - responsible for pushing the data to CDP.
- `[XCM] REC004 | Migrate Contacts By ID` - a standalone recipe responsible for migrating specific contacts.
