# Serialization plugin

The Sitecore CLI Serialization plugin [serializes](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/101/developer-tools/sitecore-content-serialization.html "Sitecore Content Serialization"), shares, and deploys content items, and keeps them in version control.

From version 4.0.0 and later, the plugin adds support for:

- Role serialization.
- Specifying publishing targets when pushing serialized items to the instance.
- Specifying excluded fields.
