# Manually enable the Reference Data service

You can manually enable the Reference Data service on any other XP service application role to create a combined role. For example, to combine the Reference Data service with the Marketing Automation Operations service:

1. Install the Marketing Automation Operations service using a WDP from the XP Scaled packages.
2. Manually enable the following configuration files by removing the `.disabled` suffix:

    | File | Path |
    | --- | --- |
    | `sc.xConnect.ReferenceData.Initialize.xml` | `App_Data\Config\Sitecore\ReferenceData\` |

3. Add any additional [connection strings required by the Reference Data service](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/102/platform-administration-and-architecture/reference-data-service.html "Reference Data service").
