# Search entities

The Search plugin defines a SearchStatus entity.

## SearchStatus

The SearchStatus entity keeps track of the `CurrentIndexName` (which is the search index name that is currently being used), allowing the [SwitchOnRebuild feature](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-commerce/switch-commerce-indexes-during-rebuild.html "Switch Commerce indexes during rebuild") to select the secondary index when a full index rebuild is initiated. When the index rebuilding operation is completed, the new value of the `CurrentIndexName` property is persisted in the SearchStatus entity.

The SearchStatus entity updates all running instances of Commerce Engine when the Redis cache enabled.
