# Accessing xConnect Data Tools

Content Management (CM) authentication restricts access to the [xConnect Web API](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-platform/web-api-for-xconnect-data-tools.html "Web API for xConnect Data Tools") and [xConnect CLI plugin](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-platform/xconnect-devex-cli-plugin.html "xConnect DevEx CLI plugin") . All users that want to run xConnect Data Tool operations must have admin rights or be a [member of the role](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/platform-administration-and-architecture/add-a-user-to-a-role.html) `sitecore\Sitecore XConnect Data Admin`.

There are two ways to authenticate and access the xConnect Data Tools:

- [Log in to the CM server](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/platform-administration-and-architecture/log-in-to-experience-platform.html) to authenticate with the xConnect Web API.
- [Log in to the Sitecore CLI](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/developer-tools/log-in-to-a-sitecore-instance-with-sitecore-command-line-interface.html) to authenticate with the xConnect CLI plugin.
