# Enable or disable web tracking based on visitor consent

In Sitecore 10.0 and later, you can enable or disable tracking based on a contact's consent choice. To use this functionality you must:

- [Configure a website to require explicit consent](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-platform/walkthrough--configuring-a-website-to-require-explicit-consent-for-tracking.html "Walkthrough: Configuring a website to require explicit consent for tracking")
- [Use the consent manager API to capture and manage consent choices](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-platform/manage-a-contact-s-tracking-consent-choices.html "Manage a contact's tracking consent choices")

> [!note]
> Sitecore does not provide a default rendering or user interface for managing consent choices for tracking.

The `ConsentInformation` facet is used to store tracking consent information, as well as other consent information for a contact. To manage consent choices outside the context of the tracker, use the [xConnect Client API](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/103/sitecore-experience-platform/xconnect-client-api--c--.html "xConnect Client API (C#)") to update the `ConsentInformation` facet.
