# Change the content test strategy

We recommend that you do not change the default test strategy because the Subgroup Round Robin Sticky strategy is the [most effective strategy](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/104/sitecore-experience-platform/the-content-test-strategy.html) in all situations. However, if you want, you can change the default test strategy or you can change the strategy for a single test.

To change the default test strategy:

1. In the `Sitecore.ContentTesting.config` file, go to the following section:

    ```xml
    <!-- CONTENT TESTING - TEST STRATEGY
               The default content test strategy.
               Default value: /sitecore/system/Settings/Content Testing/Test Strategies/Subgroup Round Robin Sticky
    -->
          <setting name="ContentTesting.TestStrategy" value="/sitecore/system/Settings/Content Testing/Test Strategies/Subgroup
    Round Robin Sticky" />
    ```

2. Replace *Subgroup Round Robin Sticky* with the name of the test strategy that you want to use.

Alternatively, you can change the strategy for a single test in the Content Editor.

To change the strategy for a single test:

1. Start the test.
2. In the Content Editor, in the `Test Lab` folder (*/sitecore/system/Marketing Control Panel/Test Lab/*), on the test definition item, click **Unprotect item**.
3. In the **Test Strategy** field, select another strategy from the drop-down menu.
4. Publish the changes.
5. In the Content Editor ribbon, on the **Configure** tab, in the **Attributes** group, click **Protect Item**.
