# Configuring caching

| Applies to | Content Delivery, Content Management |
| --- | --- |

Cache configuration and tuning is key to improving the performance of the Content Delivery and Content Management environments. After [configuring initial cache values](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/recommended-initial-cache-values.html "Recommended initial cache values") according to Sitecore's recommendations, we recommend that you:

- Use the cache administration page to [tune cache values](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/tune-cache-values.html "Tune cache values").
- [Tune initial prefetch cache values](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/optimize-or-disable-the-prefetch-caches.html "Optimize or disable the Prefetch caches") to balance application start time and the time taken to process incoming requests.
- As your solution grows, consider [enabling cache key indexing](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/enable-cache-key-indexing.html "Enable cache key indexing").

Depending on the availability of memory, you can choose to [disable cache size limits](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/disable-the-cache-size-limit.html "Disable the cache size limit"). You can also [create a cache](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/platform-administration-and-architecture/creating-a-cache.html "Creating a cache") as needed.
