# Live event detection

Live event detection enables the tracker to submit event data to the Marketing Automation Engine before the end of a session. This allows the Marketing Automation Engine to progress a contact through a plan without having to wait until the interaction is available in xConnect.

Live event data is submitted by the `<submitLiveAutomationEvent>` pipeline, which uses the [Marketing Automation Operations API](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/91/sitecore-experience-platform/marketing-automation-operations-api.html "Marketing Automation Operations API").

## Mark an event as live

Any goal, outcome, or event definition item marked **IsLiveEvent** is submitted to the Marketing Automation Engine as soon as it is triggered. In the following example, the Demo Request event is a live event:
