# Upgrading Data Exchange Framework

This section guides you through the process of upgrading Data Exchange Framework (DEF) to the latest version, either [on-prem](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/def/90/data-exchange-framework/install-data-exchange-framework-on-prem.html "Install Data Exchange Framework on-prem") or on a [container](urn:resource:component:730846) installation.

> [!note]
> DEF 9.0 is only compatible with Sitecore 10.4.
