# Use a Custom SMTP for email delivery

For email delivery, you can choose to use the [EXM Delivery Cloud or the Custom SMTP](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/exm/103/email-experience-manager/the-exm-delivery-cloud-compared-to-the-custom-smtp.html "The EXM Delivery Cloud compared to the custom SMTP").

To switch from using the EXM Delivery Cloud to using the Custom SMTP, you must disable the `Sparkpost` configurations and then enable the `CustomSmtp` configurations.

To start using the Custom SMTP:

1. In the `Website\Web.config` file, set the `eds:define` appsetting to CustomSmtp:

    ```text
    <add key="eds:define" value="CustomSmtp" />
    ```

2. In the `\App_Config\Sitecore\EmailExperience\Sitecore.EDS.Providers.CustomSmtp*` configuration files, [configure your SMTP and POP3 servers](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/exm/103/email-experience-manager/the-exm-configuration-settings.html "The EXM configuration settings").
