# Configuring a message setting

You can configure message settings either on a specific message or on a message type level.

To configure a specific message:

1. In the Content Editor, navigate to *sitecore/Content/Email/Messages*.
2. In the Messages folder, select the specific message that you want to configure and then click the **Content** tab.

3. Edit the relevant settings and save the message.

These settings apply to the selected message only. To apply general settings to all messages of a particular type, set up default parameters for a particular  [message type](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/exm/91/email-experience-manager/the-general-settings-for-an-email-campaign-type.html "The general settings for an email campaign type").
