# Developing JSS applications

Developing JSS applications has [some differences](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/javascript-frameworks-and-jss.html "JavaScript frameworks and JSS") compared to developing regular JavaScript framework apps because JSS apps are meant to integrate with Sitecore and support content authoring workflows.

To work with JSS app development, you must understand [how JSS and Sitecore work together](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/architecture-overview.html "Architecture overview"), and follow [some JSS-specific development best practices](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/best-practices-when-working-with-jss.html "Best practices when working with JSS"). Depending on your background (Sitecore or JavaScript developer), the availability of a Sitecore instance, and business requirements you can [choose a development workflow](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/development-workflows.html "Development workflows").

> [!note]
> JSS supports the latest version of Sitecore. Before getting started, [identify the correct version of JSS for your Sitecore version](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/identify-the-correct-version-of-jss-for-your-sitecore-version.html "Identify the correct version of JSS for your Sitecore version").

JSS supports several popular JavaScript frameworks and provides [app samples to help you scaffold JSS projects quickly](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/application-templates-and-samples.html "Application templates and samples").

You can create JSS applications using the latest version of the JSS sample applications (compatible with the latest version of Sitecore). To get started with JSS app development using the latest version of JSS sample apps and Sitecore, use one of the following guides:

- [Getting started with JSS for Next.js development](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/getting-started-with-jss-for-next-js-development.html "Getting started with JSS for Next.js development").
- [Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for React](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/walkthrough--getting-started-with-jss-for-react.html "Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for React").
- [Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for Angular](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/walkthrough--getting-started-with-jss-for-angular.html "Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for Angular").
- [Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for Vue.js](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/walkthrough--getting-started-with-jss-for-vue-js.html "Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for Vue.js").
- [Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for React Native](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/walkthrough--getting-started-with-jss-for-react-native.html "Walkthrough: Getting started with JSS for React Native").

> [!tip]
> You can also [create a JSS project based on an older sample app version (compatible with older versions of Sitecore)](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/create-a-jss-app-for-an-older-version-of-sitecore.html "Create a JSS app for an older version of Sitecore").

If you do not have access to a Sitecore instance and are [working in disconnected mode](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/working-disconnected-in-jss.html "Working disconnected in JSS"), use the [Manifest API](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/jss-manifest-api.html "JSS Manifest API") to define items and data in your JSS app. You can later import them to Sitecore with the help of the JSS CLI and the [App Import API](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/jss-app-import-api.html "JSS App Import API").

If you have access to a Sitecore instance, [connect and deploy your application to Sitecore](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/developers/hd/23/sitecore-headless-development/walkthrough--connecting-a-jss-application-to-sitecore.html "Walkthrough: Connecting a JSS application to Sitecore").
