# Enable the use of background images

To further enhance the design of your pages, you can add a background image to any rendering that uses a data source. Before you can add a background image, you need to add the *_Background Image* template to the data source of the rendering.

> [!note]
> For information about adding a background image to a component in the Experience Editor, see [Add a background image to a component](https://doc.sitecore.com/xp/en/users/sxa/105/sitecore-experience-accelerator/add-a-background-image-to-a-component.html).

To enable the use of background images:

1. In the Content Editor, navigate to the rendering data source (*Templates/Feature/Headless Experience Accelerator*).
2. In the **Data** section, add the *_Background Image* template (*Templates/Foundation/Experience Accelerator/Presentation*).

3. In the Experience Editor, if you now add the rendering, you can see that the **Assign Background Image** button is available in the toolbar. Click the icon to select the image.
