# Import or export language content

You can manage translations efficiently by exporting and importing language content as an XML file. This helps maintain consistency across multilingual versions of your site. Before making major changes or upgrades, export your content as a backup and keep a copy of the original XML file for rollback if needed.

> [!note]
> Currently, the only supported format for both exporting and importing language content is XML.

## Export language content

To export language content:

1. In the Sitecore **Desktop**, click **Control Panel**.
2. In the **Control Panel**, in the **Localization** section, click **Export languages**.
3. In the **Export languages** dialog, select the languages you want to export, then click **Next**.
4. Navigate to the top item you want to export to export the selected item and all its subitems in the specified languages. Click **Next**.
5. Enter the name of the language file you want to export, then click **Next**.
6. To download the XML file with the exported languages, click **Download**.
